This is a very simple block pattern for Improv birds. This pattern has cutting instructions and a detailed guide on how to piece it. This pattern is intended to be a simple starting point in making improv birds. After you make a couple you can make their legs and necks longer. You can create short plump birds or tall skinny ones. Add feather plumage to their head or long fancy tails. Let your imagination take flight!
This bird block pattern is based on the improv bird quilt my Flickr Quilt Bee and I made in 2012. The variety of birds that flew away from that first basic pattern made of a wonderfully quirky flock. I hope you have fun with it. I would love to see what you make.
